Teen Obesity Addressed by Dr. Oz' HealthCorps.

If more teens and families would go hiking, biking, swimming or jogging every day, the rate of obesity could lower considerably.

Dr. Mehmet Oz and his wife Lisa Oz have established a nonprofit organization, HealthCorps. to help empower young people to live healthier lives, with the goal to cut their susceptibility to become obese.

The figures are staggering, with approximately 12.5 million American children and adolescents, ages 2 to 19 years being obese.  In fact, in New York State alone, obesity in those age groups has tripled over the last three decades.  Our guess is that the Canadian figures per capita would be very similar.

Daily exercise is important of course, but there are many other aspects as well, including teaching kids about healthy eating in a fun way. For many, the problem may be fast food diets or high glycemic choices.

USANA Health Sciences is teaming up with HealthCorps to combat childhood obesity and to educate children about nutrition and fitness.

Every family and the school system can do their part in helping to reduce obesity among young people as well.
