Wellness Tied to Regular Meals. Don't Skip!

The more meals you skip, the worse shape you will be in, reports a recent survey by the Symptom Profiler, an online survey of 29,000 people in 2010-11.


Skipping meals is fairly common: 23.5 per cent sometimes miss their morning meal; another 6.5 per cent never eat it; 20.6 per cent skip lunch occasionally, and 8.3 per cent miss dinner.  The more we slip, the worse we feel.


So, what's the problem with skipping meals?  Taking a break for regular meals is important not just for overall health, but for mental acuity and ability to pay attention, according to another fascinating study reported in Maclean's Magazine, September 26, 2011.


"After concentrating for an extended period of time, our attention wears thin and decision-making faculties become overloaded.  Low blood sugar could also be the culprit."


The conclusion is that when you are trying to stay sharp and focussed, taking a break for a meal might be the smartest thing a person can do.


Personally,  I start my morning with a USANA Nutritional shake, loaded with frozen fruit, extra Omega 3 oil, shaken together in a Magic Bullet.   I also carry a USANA nutritional bar in my bag for a snack or even lunch on the run.  The key besides eating something nutritious, is to also take time to relax and breathe.  Take time away from deep thinking....and from the computer or the iphone.  Give your brain a break.
