Natural Headache Help

Headaches reduce productivity and can ruin your day.  How can you avoid medications and give yourself pain-free days?

Here's great information on natural remedies, by Elaine Pace, President of the Sanoviv Medical Institute.  Their blog: http://sanovivblog.com

Grating noise from tinnitus, TMJ, or these Catalan shoes may trigger headaches.

According to the National Headache Foundation, there are more than 150 types of headache, with the tension headache being most common.  Causes of headaches vary widely, but every headache has one thing in common – it is painful.  Most people reach for analgesics, but with the valid concerns that acetaminophen is harmful to the liver, and NSAIDS are hard on the digestive system, many of us are looking for healthier relief.

Even mild dehydration may trigger headaches.  The next time you have a headache, go over your water intake in the last 12 hours to ensure  you are not dehydrated.  Begin hydrating immediately.  Orange juice may be a good choice for you; calcium can relax your muscles and improve blood flow.

Food allergies and sensitivities are a frequent trigger of both migraines and tension headaches. Our nutritionists at Sanoviv conduct comprehensive food sensivity tests that give you information on what types of foods may be causing difficulty.  Low blood sugar is also a common nutritional cause of headaches – following a low glycemic diet may alleviate your future pain.

Coenzyme Q10 has been found to eliminate migraines in up to 50% of people living with these painful headaches.  Have you had your magnesium levels checked?  Magnesium deficiency can lead to abnormal blood vessel constriction and neurotransmitter imbalance, both of which may cause headaches.

Chill out Apply an ice pack for 5 – 10 minutes to the back of your neck or the area on your head that is giving you pain.  The ice will help reduce inflammation, dull the pain, and might just chase that headache away!

Chill out, Part 2.  Breathe deeply and often.  Apply firm pressure to the pads of your thumbs.  Do both at the same time while turning out the light and lying down for 10 – 15 minutes.  Give yourself a face, head, and neck massage, instructions here:  http://www.365inspirations.com/1/post/2010/07/destress-through-your-face.html

Do your best to treat your headache in a way that is healthy for your entire body.  Every part of you is precious and deserves to be cared for.
