Olympians Need Balance, Strength and Flexibility

Olympic athletes are streaming into Vancouver, preparing their bodies and minds for the Olympic Games, getting used to the altitude, the weather, the food, the conditions for their sports.

No doubt they are busy in the gyms as well. Now, I'm not an Olympian, but my guess is that they are masters at this exercise. Squats on an uneven surface, with a weighted ball, to stimulate balance, strengthen leg and back muscles, tighten the core.

My first attempts at this activity were pretty feeble, but now I love it. In fact, at first I worked out with a personal trainer because I needed someone to push me beyond what I would do myself in a gym. I needed his expertise and his encouragement. Some days, I really didn't want to exercise. I just wanted to be lazy.

But exercise is an attitude. Now, I say to myself, "I love being at the gym" "I love being challenged." What a difference a positive attitude makes!

Olympic athletes have been tempted to quit many times. They fail and get up again. I'll bet there are days when they would rather veg out on the couch. But they set goals and action plans. They follow through and keep their eyes on the prize. They have excellent coaches and they respect their guidance and discipline.

We can all be Olympians in spirit. Let's catch the spirit and cheer on the 100 Winter Games Olympic athletes who are faithfully using the Usana products to fuel and strengthen them. Go Team USANA!

  1. Loving the blog, Deanna. Very nice work! I can't wait for the Olympics. Especially looking forward to seeing Jenn Heil compete. And of course speedskating. Should be a lot of fun to watch!
